Hepburn Calls on Central Scotland Youth Groups to Apply for Share of £2.5million Cashback for Commun
Friday, 16 July 2010

Jamie Hepburn, SNP MSP for Central Scotland, welcomed the announcement that the fourth round of funding from the Scottish Government’s ‘Cashback for Communities’ programme has opened.  The fund will make £2.5million of cash seized from criminals available to youth groups across the country.

Cash will be distributed on a pro-rata basis within Local Authority areas, and Jamie Hepburn has called on local youth groups in the region to contact Youthlink Scotland, who administer the scheme, for more information.

Commenting, Jamie Hepburn MSP said:

“Cashback for Communities has already benefited a number of local projects, including Cumbernauld YMCA, and I would encourage any group working with young people in the Central Scotland Region to see if their work can be supported from the latest round of funding.

“This cash from the SNP Government helps  young people but it also benefits the wider community, whether that's getting kids off street corners, getting them involved in things like volunteering or offering them the chance to give something back to their communities.

“To date £19.5 million has been invested in a range of free activities for young people across Scotland, using the proceeds of crime to help stop future crime and build a fairer, better Scotland.”
